Castaways and Cutouts by the Decemberists.

Curious: Were you saying "fuck gashcat" or saying "fuck! gashcat"

the first, sorry if you are a fan. just too hard of trying to be neutral milk hotel, or so it sounds to my ears.

I would throw The Gerbils and Hawk & a Handsaw on there as well if you have Music Tapes; all three are equally relevant as associated with NMH. I would even add Nana Grizol too.

Also check out Gorki's Zygotic Mynci and a local Minneapolis band called Communist Daughter (yep you read that right).

    I concur!

    Also I would recommend:
    Beirut "Gulag Orkestar"
    Ramshackle Glory "Live The Dream"

They definitely draw a lot of inspiration from the Milk Hotels, but there really is a difference in style. They add their own thing and have great unique imagery in their songs. Also, side note, the guy from gashcat (Kyle Craft) now has a new band and is making music that sounds less like a Modern Milk Motel.

    What's the top left one?

Snowglobe sounds extremely similar. Probably ripping them off a little too much, but they had some really catchy songs (I haven't listened in years though, not sure how it holds up).
