I just read some really good reviews the album "The Golden River" by Frog Eyes...I was wondering if the people of the Townhall have this album, and can reccomend it. I have never heard of the band before, so I'd like some opinions.

For others who wish to read the reviews I read here they are:

I'm going to buy it now. Its been awhile since I've bought an album with no idea what its really going to sound like because of all the demystifying mp3s, and 30 second samples available.

I was so dissapointed. I really didn't like it at all. Listen to it first on soulseek before you go out and spend your money.

*gets down on knees and prays that Williams hasn't bought it yet*

Erraaah, okay. I haven't ordered it yet. I guess I'll download a song or 2 first since it was unrecomended.

The two songs I've heard sound like things that I'd like to listen to every day...
but then again I listen to noise every day. It sounds great in an Interpol fronted by Jamie Stuart kind of way. Are you not fans of Interpol and/or Xiu Xiu? Xiu Xiu is very definately my second fav of all time (after NMH).
Off subject, but I get to see Low and Haley Bonar Friday night in Minneapolis. I'm excited.

I still might buy it, but if I hear mixed things about it I decided I should sample it first. I do like Interpol. I don't know about Xiu Xiu though, I've never listened to them really.

I second Xiu Xiu.

Interpol is also amazing.

i'm rocking their shit at wrk right now
the only thing bowie about them is the vocals, and it's a good ziggy stardust thing going on there. the band sounds like bjorn olsson playing an electrified music box played back on a dusty and warped 78. get THE BLOODY HAND
that is their best rec

I have Golden river and it's not an easy listen. It has elements of things I like in music, but the David Bowie vocals are soo ill-fit. I'd pass on it, unless of course you have nothing else on your need-to-buy list

I just found out Frog Eyes released another album last month (The Folded Palm), and Carey Mercer has a solo album out now (Blackout Beach - Light Flows the Putrid Dawn). It weird because I've heard absolutley nothing about them and have seen no online reviews. I need to get both, has anyone picked them up?

the goldne river is a masterpiece, and i am particularly enjoying the folded palm, and highly recomend seeing them live if they come near you (its quite an experiance). The first time you listne to them, mercer's voice comes off as increidbley obnoxious, but that is what is so beautiful about the music, i find that after each listne (to nay album) i enjoy it even more than th elast.
