View Full Version : The Robot Ate Me

If I recall correctly, there was a degree of appreciation for this delightful ensamble among the members of this board. Well, ladies and gents, there is an Mp3 from the new album up on their site (www.therobotateme.com), and let me tell you it holds immense promise.
The album itself looks bizarre and conceptual, weening itself off the guitar and synths that comprised the spine of their debut. And it looks like they've finally eaten their fill lyrically and are now concentrating on Jesus and Hitler for subject material. I'm excited to hear it.

Very interesting.
I listened to The Gonocide Ball, an it was funny, cheerful :)
7.6 by putchfork isn't bad, eighter.
Were did you buy it?

It was originally given an 8.2 (I think) by another writer, I don't know why the review that made it in did rather than the higher one. I bought mine directly from the Swim Slowly Records page.

The band name is somewhat...interesting. I'm going to give them a try. I've yet to hear their first album but the kudos from the board are intriguing.

Yeh, their/his name is pretty awful now.
I was a fan back when Ryland was all alone (he recorded almost all of the album by himself) and was going under the name Kilmore Trout. Then it was The Maybes after his grandma who passed away. He went through names and cover art like mad. There were Mp3s and a webpage, but the record wasn't released just forever. In fact, I think I reccommended it to this board but I don't think anyone checked it out.

In the words of James Murphy and the DFA: I WAS THERE! I WAS THERE! I'm losing edge.

You've got to love sci-fi novels interspersed with hardcore pornography.

I still haven't finished Breakfast of Champions. I am lame.

oh man you have to finish breakfast of champions.

i have the movie, which of course isn't very good. but i do like the trippiness of the movie and i think its casted perfectly (except omar epps is a little to exicited through the whole thing). so its fun to go back and re-read the book with the cast in mind for the book.

albert finney is a great kilgore trout.

i can't say that i like the name kilmore trout. i guess i just don't like puns as band names or band names that are intended to be funny or names that reference my favorite writer. there's also a band from minneapolis named malachi constant which kind of irritates me although they're not that bad.

What would a good band name be?

I'm not sure if the next album will be under my name, some other name, or under the robot ate me. I've been advised against using my name by some and not by others but who knows. I'm glad some of you like the songs - I think the new ones (coming out in May) will be the best yet...but that's another thing I'm never good at knowing. On Vacation will be out in stores in Feb through 5RC with new cover artwork and a nice booklet. I can't believe there is someone out there that knows about kilmore trout. Really funny...ok, take care - bye.

i think it all depends on what your (real)name is. but i do always respect someone more if they come up with a band name even if it's just him/her doing everything. it adds a little to it i think. i don't think the robot ate me is bad, but i like your stuff so i've kind of made it fit i guess.
