...and you know it's true!

elephant 6 is now in people's minds and hearts and has touched many music makers. it's now an idea that will be part of so music, not just a sound or group of bands, just like the idea of punk.

has anyone ever heard of "The Hipster Handbook"? They have this "hipster quiz" and the last question is:

Elephant 6 is which of the following:
1. A hip fashion brand
2. A type of condom
3. A music collective
4. A children's movie
5. Slang for venereal disease

this is the link for the quiz...http://www.hipsterhandbook.com/quiz.html

hehehe, ive taken that test, and well, i guess im not a big hipster (i just barely passed). somehow that doesnt dissapoint me- i dont like to be labeled.

for fun, i answered the e6 question wrong and this is their explanation:
Hipsters are up on music and know that the Elephant 6 collective formed the bands Neutral Milk Hotel and Apples in Stereo. It would be a deck name for a condom though. :D

well, i don't know that i've ever had to deal with that exact problem, but a nice thick, long beard might do the trick. even a fake one could work if you're incapable of growing a real one. also, start a lawn-care business, that'll have you out of hipsterville in a new york minute!

Those big thick beards like Scott Spillane, and the guy from Iron & Wine have are very hip...

hey hipster! yeah, pitchfork can be a little harsh. remember that worrying about which music is new or COOL is not important. when you die, you will realise that the feelings you had when music most affected you were what mattered. wear clothes that make your body feel good and comfortable. if you catch yourself thinking, "i like this record, sounds like an 8.4", you may have gone too far, which i can relate to. at the same time, having fun with looking certain ways and discovering new musics are great things to do, as long as you don't define yourself by them. getting older seems to help this dilemma too. :)

Robert Schneider told me he has written an essay about this topic. he's going to send it to me to post on the E6 website. i'll let you know when it's on there...
