Hewlett Packard, which previously had a commercial featuring the Kinks' "Picture Book," now is playing the Apples' "Rainbow" in a very similar commercial. A number of spit-takes took place throughout the room when this happened.

Wow, I have yet to see the Decemberists one. Someone at HP marketing has good taste. I remember when the "Picture Book" commercial first played, I screamed at my wife "I love this song, I can't believe it's on TV!" Of course I was sick of it in a week or two. Since "The Rainbow" is one of my favorite AIS songs, maybe I should be wary.

Is what a lot of my friends say.

Most annoying statement of the year.

yeah my jaw dropped and i was like "the apples in stereo!"

that seems to always happen each time i hear them unexpectedly... like once on cartoon network for the powerpuff girls movie. it was like a music video or something.

It was a nice choice.

No, The Apples were just helping promote the TV show, not the movie. Cartoon Network showed this awful girl-pop band for the movie. Methinks this was not a song that pleased Mr. McCracken, because in the movie the song doesn't actually appear until the very end after a Frank Black song after most of the credits have already rolled. Even then, it was only a small bit of the song.

Craig picked a bunch of great artists to help promote The Powerpuff Girls: The Apples, Bill Doss, Dressy Bessy, Frank Black, Devo, Shonen Knife... think he's an e6 fan?

BTW, you can get the Apples music video on the Meet the Beat-alls DVD. There's also a making of, but the Apples never appear in it, sadly.

There are some of my favorite episodes on there, too. The Beat-alls one is killer if you're a Beatles fan. 2 references per second.
