HOLY SHIT. i thought that sept 15th would be the best day of my life but now i have october 9th. first night of the tour :D

i dont really understand the setlist exactly. what i really want to know is if scott will be playing as the gerbils? will each of the bands listed be playing thier own set?? are they going to show the entire major organ movie???

wilson
09-03-2008, 01:01 PM
Everyone's sorta going to be playing together up there. The movie will be shown first, in full (my understanding is it's about 30-35 minutes long? anyone seen it that can bake me up?), followed by the long set of everyone playing everyone's songs. Hopefully, there will be a brief intermission somewhere in the set.

nevermind. the only show i could make is the first show at chapel hill, nc. but its a 18+ venue, while i am 18- :( . the saddest day of my life. this an outrage!! i can't believe julian would knowingly play at an 18+ show.

wilson
09-03-2008, 02:15 PM
If you want to talk about the Chapel Hill show, send me a private message. Merge is good friends with the owner of the venue, and we can see if something can be worked out with him... because I agree that Julian would in no way want people left out due only to age

I just contacted the University Singletary Center for the Arts and they have no details on this show at all. Is there any information on when tickets will be available or where exactly the show will be? Pollstar has nothing...Ticketmaster...nope.

I could cry just about now.
I just found out about this and the show in Chicago, right where I live, is 21+. AAAAAAA I AM ONLY 16. NO NO NO NO NO.
I could drive 3.5 hours to Bloomington if that's all-ages. I e-mailed the guy who owns Cinemat asking. Does anyone know if it is?

Oh but great. Bloomington is on a school night and I wouldnt be home until 2-3 in the morning and lordy knows my mother wouldn't go wit that.

I am crushed.

we're in the same boat :(. i hate to say it but it looks like e6 is either to good for our generation or julian for some strange reason really enjoys playing at bars

From my understanding, Julian is not a fan of playing 21+ shows. Not sure why so many shows where booked into 21+ venues, but I know its hard to throw an all ages show in some places.

i once got into a 21+ show when i was underage by having my friend's mother go in with me and vouch that i wouldn't drink.

but that wasn't at Bottom Lounge. what's odd is that Bottom Lounge sometimes has 18+ shows (my friend's show next week is 18+) but the Holiday Surprise tour is 21+. hmm.

sorry for your current predicament. that sucks. :(

everyone email info@local506.com and tell them to lower the age limit for the e6 show!!

lucylala
09-17-2008, 08:17 AM
Regarding the age limits:

When you go on tour with 10 people and $3.50+ gas you need to get paid as much as possible with the least amount of overhead. The circuit of 300-500 person capacity bars is the best and easiest way to go for a touring band. The bars already have built in promotion staff, security, and sound and lights workers. The booking agent can just call upon the talent buyers at the various bars, and make the tour happen.

If the Holiday Surprise Tour were to occur solely in "off-the-beaten-path" venues that can accommodate 16 year olds, there would be 100X more work to be done to set up those shows, which would in turn cost more money, which would in turn make the tour completely unprofitable.

It sucks that certain people under 18 or 21 won't be able to attend the shows legally. You might want to focus your energies on how you can best sneak in. Maybe you can show up for soundcheck. Talk to Julian and tell him your plight and ask him if you can watch the soundcheck. Maybe he can sneak you in. I did that kind of stuff when I was younger.

My advice would be to focus your energies on how you can sneak in.

theEngineChoir

For any or all of those traveling to Bloomington, Indiana and need of somewhere to stay, my roommates I can accommodate you. Send me a PM and we can figure out further details.

Your chances of sneaking in are WAY better than lobbying the club's owner. He don't care about you. Julian does.

Dude, don't blow your cover!

If the club owners know who you are, you might get spotted at the actual show!

May I suggest the following: Show up for soundcheck. Talk to Julian (or one of the other 10 members of the band) and tell em your plight. Don't bother dealing with the club owner at all. The band member will most likely let you watch soundcheck, and hopefully try to let you in the club for the show.

Of course, this assumes that you don't look like a 12 year old. I think a fake beard might be in order!
