i concur. a lot of elverum's stuff is too metal-ly for me, but the bulk of the ep is some of the best stuff he's come out with for a while.

Also, I was thinking of picking up The Microphones album Window. Is it worth it?

it's really a great album, i've been playing it constantly... there's a great live energy to it. it mashes genres all up without being forced at all. the drumming is great. i like the new "don't smoke" better than the 7 inch one! ahhh i can't wait for it's "real" release, which phil said isn't until a few months but he'll sell it on his website as soon as he gets them. woooo

Eh, I think the "Don't Smoke" he released under the Microphones name is better. But I also think the Mount Eerie one is an earlier version since it suggests on his site that it was recorded in 2006.

yeah i donno, it probably is an earlier version, but i guess i like the sloppiness and the garage-bandy feel to the mt.eerie version. and the ridiculously heavy drumming, especially during the chorus's. it makes me play air drums!

i'm going to be so excited if he tours with this hardcore band promoting these songs... so, so excited.

he is working with a hardcore band? i thought he just recorded everything himself.

didnt he say that album came together because of the band he was playing with which was more punky (like the album/EP sounds) which included jason anderson on drums?
if j. anderson was on drums i dont expect taht lineup to tour soon cause jason is a teacher in MA now but im sure he'll go out again promoting it. its really a good album. i havent listend tot he old version of dont smoke lately so i cant offer anything on that.
