So far I only have The Gift by the Velevet Underground, Skylon by Gruff Rhys, and Tweeter and the monkey man by traveling wilburys.

ghostface killah - 'shakey dog'.
a lot of nick cave and the bad seeds (like 'stagger lee', 'darker with the day')
will oldham/bonnie prince billy/palace (e.g. 'ease down the road', 'new partner')
ben folds (five) - 'zac and sara', 'not the same', 'one angry dwarf and 200 solemn faces, steven's last night in town')

i think it's important that i stop now, but there's tonnes of stuff!

willie nelson - the red headed stranger (fantastic album)

shit, how could i overlook that one - a top choice. If you don't own any Willie, and I think I've said this here before, but I would strongly recommend starting with "Willie and Family Live", which has definitive live versions of many great Willie tunes like "Red Headed Stranger"

yeah, willie had a run of albums through the early/mid 70's (before "outlaw" country or what-have-you became a cartoon of itself) that are just brilliant. the willie and family live album you mentioned is a great time. stardust is one of my favorites. gotta love willie!
