Default Church of Montreal post about Georgie Fruit

Thought I'd spread the argument/love onto this....

"Q do any of you find the concept of Georgie Fruit as a bit racist/ transphobic? genuinely curious, not trying to cause a stir. I just get bothered by the line "I'm just a black she-male" in Wicked Wisdom."

I took it as the PC wins. We're in a world full of hate, then since our world sucked because of the hate, someone would start a reason to shit on anyone who found comfort in opening up to that comfort as a safe place for them to open up as being a part of it. It's so confusing, alienating, and I never thought I'd have to hear about Kevin Barnes' lyrics being connected to racism and homophobia but here we are.

I read the discussion also and refrained from contributing since I feel exactly the same as what you stated

Thought I'd put this here for a frame of what I post there before it gets deleted, and this page died years ago....

"Someone reported my comment about the "n!ggers and fags" but obviously missed the point. Stop destroying the point by ignoring a truth of what those words mean by someone who doesn't mean to hurt anyone. This whole post has brought a PC shit fest of people who think they can defend something but don't understand when someone uses those words out of a point. It's not always a black/white polarized point to push your/my agenda. Sometimes you know you can say a word to show a point. Good god who ever reported me.The next song I write will be me being a black she-male. Grow up. Wake up. Stop dividing us with this stupid rhetoric where you're on one side or the other."

Yeah GF is def framed as a racist/transphobic character lyrically, but lenn you already have an idea about how I feel about Kevin a la "let's relate."

I don't know how Kevin identifies internally but publicly he's always been a cis-(bi)-white guy. MtF trans PoCs are one of te most vulnerable groups of people in the US with very high murder and suicide rates, as well as being victims of disproportionate violence. I get that it's "art" and I get that it was just before we really started having a queer revolution in this country but Kevin was not "staying woke, like Pharoah E Badu" in this character.

I'm not saying Kevin is necessarily racist/transphobic but some of his art is at times. Can you admit that a cis white dude is an asshole with little regard to other people/cultures? (Q sorpresa)

Also side note: is Church of Montreal still a garbage fanboi/gurl club with people masturbating over every thought of Kevin?
