Freek, you are right about IR lacking cohesion. The art rock songs don't seem like they belong with the electronic songs. But they are all great songs. And the second half had some amazing tunes -- Nursing Slopes is one of my favorite oM songs of all time! Maybe this is a transitional album like Sunlandic was, or maybe it's supposed to be all over the place like The White Album. They can't all be perfect like SL, right?

Christina- I second your love for Bedside Drama. They don't make albums like that anymore. Although they should.

Saw the show in Pittsburgh last night. Setlist was the same as it's been all tour - encore was just Du Og Meg and Heimdalsgate (which surprised me as other shows had gotten 3-4 songs with some combo of Suffer for Fashion / The Past / Bassem Sabry / She's A Rejecter.)

There was a gorgeous cover of "Falling In Love Again" by Marlene Dietrich in the middle of the set just piano, vocal, and Clayton on... clarinet? Kevin took the opportunity to show off his voice in a way he doesn't normally and it was gorgeous. He even did a "National Anthem at the sports arena" long holding of a vibrato'd note. There was also an interesting transition after... I think A Sport and a Pastime, where the band did this falling vocal acapella thing that was really cool.

I have to commend Kevin for being brave enough to spend the first 12 songs of a 19 song set avoiding material from Hissing Fauna and Skeletal Lamping. I never, ever thought they'd bring back any Paralytic songs, let alone do two of them every night for a month. Dour Percentage sounded pretty good, though they were running the strings/horns on a backing track that was barely present in the mix. I found out the reason why the new setlists are so static is because of the amount of programming involved in the show now - programmed tracks, programmed lighting, etc. I imagine it makes it easier on everyone knowing the order, knowing when theatrics are happening, etc.

People went nuts for It's Different For Girls and Fugitive Air which really surprised me. They seem to have had a small uptick in fans due to the amount of exposure that the two new videos got, which is good. There was a different, newer, younger, draggier crowd there. Du Og Meg was really well received which made me happy. I'd love to see Voltaic Crusher, Mutants, and Cato as a Pun come back since you can pretty much play anything from that era and the crowd will love it.

People were really impatient for the first half of the set, even so far as to be audibly talking over Stag to the Stable and Empyrean Abattoir.

Some setlist wishes for the next run:

She Ain't Speakin' Now, Triumph of Disintegration, Wintered Debts, Ye Renew the Plaintiff, Plastis Wafers, Triphaulls to Punctuate, An Eluardian Instance (in full), Godly Intersex, Sex Karma / Girl Named Hello, Voltaic Crusher, We Were Born the Mutants Again With Leafling, Forecast Fascist Future, Slave Translator, Like A Tourist, Virgillian Lots, Apollyon of Blue Room, Gelid Ascent

Here's what setlist.fm sez the list for Thalia Hall in Chicago was:

      Gratuitous Abysses
      We Will Commit Wolf Murder
      Let's Relate
      Enemy Gene
      Dour Percentage
      Fugitive Air
      Ambassador Bridge
      Empyrean Abattoir
      Stag to the Stable
      It's Different for Girls
      A Sport and a Pastime
      Labyrinthian Pomp
Bunny Ain't No Kind of Rider
      Id Engager
      Gronlandic Edit
      The Party's Crashing Us
      Encore:
      Du Og Meg
      Bassem Sabry
      Heimdalsgate Like a Promethean Curse
The Past Is a Grotesque Animal

However, like the previous post, there was Falling in Love Again as well, but dunno where in the order.

I hate it when an audience talks over new songs or 'unpopular' songs. It really spoils the mood. The False Priest show I was at would have been the most amazing and creative performance I'd ever seen, but the lackluster crowd put a damper on things a bit.

Maybe it was the lsd but that show was AMAZING. fuck. Some DEEP CUTS in there (ya feel me Xtina?). Out of 12+ times did Kevin know this was the time Id drop? That cover in the middle was a highlight...my best friend came and had only causally heard them but that song also grabbed his attention. Also I got sad without BP and Dottie especially during Bunny.:/

Didnt get The Past...short encore 2nite
