Question What's the essential Marshmallow Coast album?

I've never listened to Marshmallow Coast before, but I recently bought an old single, The Scent Of Credibility, on a whim, and I've been enjoying it a ton. Any suggestions as to where I should go from here? From what I've heard, Seniors and Juniors is considered to be the best but I figured I'd come ask here. thanks.

I think Ride the Lightning is a good start, although, I'm personally a big fan of Antistar. But yeah, I like every song on Ride the Lighting.

Yeah, you probably shouldn't start with Seniors and Juniors - though it is probably the best Marshmallow effort, it's a bit of an acquired taste. You'd probably be better off with getting Marshmallow Coasting, Ride the Lightning, and the like before delving into the odd sea that is Timesquare and Seniors and Juniors.

Thanks all! I'll try Ride the Lightning and Marshmallow Coasting and go from there.

      I should!

Actually, I just ended up buying an LP of Phreak Fantasy I found used for cheap because well... it's rare and handmade and limited! Will I get anything from this unadvised detour? I am downloading Ride the Lightning and Marshmallow Coasting right now.

Well, I really like Phreak Phantasy but it's a lot different from earlier stuff.

...and Gary and Larry sure are different from...Jerry.

It really is much different, but I like it a lot, much more disco-ish, synth-pop I suppose you'd call it. It seems kinda disjointed and lyrically odd though, to be honest. I don't think it compares much to the earlier records...

As for Ride the Lightning & Marshmallow Coasting, they're definitely both exceptional pop records. Ride The Lightning is probably my favorite so far; though I do hate comparing artists, some songs do remind me of The Magnetic Fields which is nice. Marshmallow Coasting I had to listen to a few times before really getting into it but now I love it. I'll listen to Seniors & Juniors and Timesquare tomorrow.

Marshmallow Coast is such an amazing name; I can't figure why on earth he changed it.

PS: I really have no idea what you're referring to in the 2nd sentence.
