I wouldn't say they're mimicking the Elephant 6 sound at all.... If anything, they may have used the same musicians/bands as base inspiration but that's about it.

Mimicking Elephant 6 sound? Haha, yeah right.

I like the first album a lot more aside from some good moments on the new one. The brickwalled sound is pretty evident, too, which is annoying.

I like the new album a lot. The first one was decent but nothing exciting. Tame Impala's latest is really great to me though. Such a nice update of psychedelic music and the work of Todd Rundgren.

I find soniclovenoize's comments about the texture interesting though. I usually can't listen to flat, one planar noise without boredom. This record satisfies me with its sounds. Nice and crunchy and fills up a lot of the aural "white space" with effects and sounds.

However, regarding this "basement filter." I don't record so this is a laymen's interpretation but I do hear it. A few more moments of breaking through this filter may have made the more record more exciting but overall the sound works. It's not the best pop record so it relies on how it sounds rather than catchy song writing.

Don't think any E6 comparisons are justified other than a shared reverence for the great psych records and the Beatles.
Who knew that there would actually be a hell, and that it would be in New Jersey?

agreed...except for the annoying comment...really fell in love with them though because of the early EP's, and of course Half Glass Full of Wine and this...

i don't think they sound like e6 really, and i think the beatles comparisons are due to the lead singer sounding just like lennon, but i have to say, i like these guys alot. first album and EP were pretty good, but i've been listening to lonerism alot more. they're also partly responsible for this http://www.youtube.com/embed/PRo2Qlj4vsE which makes me love them even more

Sometimes it's fun to have blind hatred for a band. Seriously.

It's just... with a name like "soniclovenoize" I thought you'd love these guys

Yeah, Fridmann mixed both records. And while neither were recorded in recording studios, but rather in houses I guess your "faux lo-fi" gripe should still be taken up with Dave.
As for the brickwalling, I just listened to Innerspeaker on vinyl (picked it up at the Boston show because I thought it was ltd to 500 but turns out it's 2nd pressing ) and it sounds A LOT better than the mp3's I've been listening to up until now
This rip sounds decent in headphones, but IMO not as soon as standing in front of a turntable watching the clouds go 'round...

Think these dudes are even aware of e6? I don't know... I can't put Lonerism & Black Foliage in the same ballpark.

Also for those not aware, Tame Impala is pretty much a one man band, a la of Montreal. The live band lends a bit to the albums, but pretty much everything is written & recorded by Kevin Parker. I think that's kinda cool.

But A) I don't hate them, I just find them uninteresting and B) it's not blind since I've given both albums a chance and spelled out all the reasons I don't like it.

Just my opinion, man. I also dislike MGMT and Animal Collective.
