Has anyone got any news on when the new album is going to be ready? I'm going absolutely f*cking mental with anticipation. It's been SIX YEARS.

now now, six years is only the time it took the beatles to go from "please please me" to "abbey road" (with everything in between). WHAT!!

That thought is depressing enough to discourage most from attempting to do anything creatively.

Last news on this album was in like April of last year from Derek. Anything new to say? I know CS has been doing some great shows, but there's nothing like having a finished project in our hands.

Spring isn't looking so likely at this point (based on how it hasn't been announced yet), maybe mid-summer if we're lucky?

Maybe it's just a front for a full fledged Olivia Tremor Control reunion. OR the Circulatory System + Sunshine Fix + Foghat combined to form the ultimate band.

bill actually told me in february that he and will had been writing songs again... but i doubt they will see the light of day anythime soon

Writing songs this late? I thought they were adding touches on the recordings, last I heard. :o

Four years, schmore schmeres, it's been six already. But I suppose it's worth it if they take their time to make it all a better effort overall. In fact, I would prefer that rather than being rushed in any way.

jlaird
03-24-2007, 07:47 PM
the CS album has nothing to do with bill, I was merely stating that will and bill have been working together again since the reunion tour. the cs album is all will

Think positive!

If recent shows are any indicator this is going to be one hell of a record whenever it does see the light of day.

Hell, if they had just pressed and released the CS phase 2 shows I would have bought them and then peed my pants a little bit with excitement.

Aqualad

yeah, that was a heck of a set. I've been trying to make an album of songs that mesh into each other, but they pretty much did it perfectly.

i'm sure i missed something somewhere in time, and i should probably post this somewhere else, but whatever happened to the cranberry lifecycle reissue? they announced that at about the same time they announced the new cs album, didn't they? i know the wait hasn't been as long as the new cs album, but it's still been sometime since anyone has said anything new about it (to my knowledge), and i'm really curious...

I respect the artists and I think that feverishly anticipating new releases would be an odd form of disrespect. The tapes are well more than a decade old, so I think I can wait a few more months or years.

But still...

I NEED IT

music ain't a drug, kiddos. there's tons and tons and tons of music out there that's just as interesting and enjoyable as circ. why don't you try finding a different lollipop to lick while waiting for the bigger treat? maybe you'll find something that would put circ to shame!

enough with the bucko kiddo shit. you sound like an asshole when you talk like that. i bet you use "chief" and "boss" a lot too. i don't know if people who talk like that are trying to be charming, but they invariably come off as sounding like condascending assholes.

besides, you're just whining about the whining. let it go.

and very rarely does somebody find music without hearing about it from somebody else, so there's nothing wrong with asking for a reccomendation. obviously we'll judge for ourselves whether or not we like it, but feel free to suggest something to tide people over.

If the worst is true and it's not going to be released, I hope there is a collection of the unfinished songs released at the bare minimum. I mean, at one point derek said they were in the process of mixing the songs.

Why wouldn't the album be released? It doesn't seem they've broken up obviously. And they've spent the last six years or so working on it, so it would seem ridiculous to not release it.

Could it be possible that the delay is because there won't be another "Circulatory System" album? Perhaps the CS songs have been reallocated into a new Olivia Tremor Control project, wherein Bill and Will are once again splitting the writing duties. I stopped believing "the album isn't quite finished yet" rumors about a year ago. Will is clearly holding the album back for a reason, and I wonder if it might not have something to do with a reformation of OTC.

Let's face it...OTC was much more widely regarded than either CS or SF. Black Foliage alone sold well over 30,000 copies, and probably closer to 50,000. I know Flydaddy screwed the band on these sales, with the only solace was that OTC got the rights to DACC and BF back a few years ago.

Since any new OTC recording would come out under the Cloud Recordings label, it would behoove all concerned if the next album was an Olivia II record, complete with new Bill songs, Will keeping back some of his stuff for a followup album. The album would sell much better, the turn out at tour dates would be double, and OTC would finally reap some rewards for their efforts. New fans would then buy the back catalogue albums, which OTC now owns outright. If they could sell 50,000 copies of a new OTC record, they could actually make some serious money. I know it's not very artistic to talk about making money on records, but these guys have been living a threadbare existence for quite some time, working day jobs, scraping to get by. These guys aren't 20 years old any more, they are about 35, and at some point it would be nice to make a decent living on music.

Good idea! I may well get that.

Grizzly Bear's Yellow House is probably the best recent album that sounds like CS. But then the other day I bought Parades by Efterklang... Now that's got a CS vibe to it too.

Nothing will beat the real thing though, I hope. Anyone got any more news about a release date? Please?!

I like Grizzly Bear but... it's not very CS-y... to my ears.

omg, i mean WTF???? i truly believe that this album is simultaneously being released with duke nukem forever, maybe even as the soundtrack to the game. and that is why its taking so long.

No, I think it is being released with Salinger's Hapsworth 16, 1924 novel sometime soon.

those who've heard snippets what might you say it sounds like? the first album? otc? different?

radiowires
02-22-2008, 09:11 AM
The snippets that I've heard suggest a more hard-driving set of songs. Along the lines of Yesterday's World. And I would say the tracks are more sonically diverse than the first CS album... they reminded me more like OTC's Black Foliage. But there are a LOT of songs and I only heard parts of a few. All I know is that I'm very excited. Marci or Samantha or anyone else, if you've heard more maybe you can comment. And if I've said too much let me know and I'll delete this.

damn, i hope they have some more weird stuff. i after hearing deserters as big as a star i was thinking he was going to go into a really weird direction with the music, which i found very exiting, i thought maybe it was taking so long cause of the insane of production it would take to create songs from weird noises sliced together. but whatever it ends up being im sure i will enjoy it :)

We were talking about touring with Julian [Koster] of the Music Tapes. He wants to put it together in the fall. He’s put out a couple of records on Merge, and he wants to do a tour in the fall where it’s kind of like an Elephant 6 variety show, where everybody plays on each other’s bands and plays a couple songs from a lot of different people. You know, have Robert Schneider [from Apples in Stereo] involved and play some Music Tapes songs, play some Olivia Tremor Control songs, play some Circulatory System songs. Just kind of vary it up. And then we would probably do some solo Circulatory System tours as well, but I’m not positive about that.

As far as the Olivia Tremor Control is concerned, where do you guys stand with that? I mean, if a Circulatory System record can come out seven years after the last one, is there any hope for another Olivia Tremor Control album?
Actually, every Sunday night, we’ve been getting together and doing recordings. We haven’t really been playing live lately, besides the reunion shows we played a couple of years ago. But we’ve been getting together just for the fun of it, when Bill [Doss] is not on Apples [in Stereo] tours or when Eric [Harris] is not on Elf Power tours. We have been working on a suite of new stuff, but I’m not sure what we’re going to do with that at this point.

that is exciting.
