hello everyone, just a little update...

we spent a little time this past week working with gary and bill up in new york at the marlborough farms studio (ladybug transistor). we've managed to organize and pare down the 60-80 songs we had in the running down to 19-25 almost finished tunes. we're back in athens now, getting set up at my little studio. a few more vocal overdubs, some percussion and keys here and there, then mixing and we'll be done. 1-2 months of light work? the light at the end of the tunnel is getting larger!

thanks to everyone for your interest and patience, i think you'll be very pleased with what we've gotten together. i made some really rough mixes when we we're up there and threw them randomly onto a cd. we we're pretty suprised. it's exciting!

my goal is to be done with it by april, so i think this fall is a realistic estimate. of course that depends on label stuff.

Thanks for the update. I'm sure it will be worth the wait. Any touring or shows planned for this summer?

YES! I am now a very happy man!

[Grins stupidly, does a dance, and then goes to put the first album on for the first time in ages, perhaps with a cup of lemon and ginger tea.]

Hang on: 60-80 songs?! Scope for a double album?

Thanks for the update, Derek. Just out of curiosity, how well developed are those 60-80 songs? Nice Man Washing mentioned that double LP potential, but considering that you're paring it down to a smaller total and that you have so many other songs floating out there, do you ever intend to release some of those scrapped tunes on a sort of rarities comp? I just can't get enough OTC and CS, and it'd be awesome to hear even more.

Thanks again!

it will most likely qualify as a "double album"( meaning it would take 4 15-20 minute sides to be packaged as vinyl, just like the self titled and the 2 previous otc records) just with the 19-25 songs.

i assume there will also be a companion "inside views", and that the others will find a way out soon, one way or another.

Kathy with a K from San Francisco writes via me:

Sounds to me like the recording might be finished in
April, and of course label to determine production
schedule and choose release date from a marketing
standpoint (never good to have such a recording come
out in the summer) - will it be on Cloud Recordings??

Also this is what Kathy really wants to know:
Quite often it is the art work which holds up a
release - is it all done or how far along is that? Is
it realistic to hope for a release sooner than fall??!

Thanks to all for hard work and for including us fans
in your thoughts and communications.

i have absolutely no idea where the artwork stands. sorry. i still think fall is most realistic.

by far and away the most exciting release in years. i'm very interested to hear what they sound like. the new songs they've played live seem a bit more rocking. this is one of those guaranteed mind blowers. it would be impossible for this album to disappoint even with the long wait.

this is the only upcoming release I'm really looking forward to hearing, period. man. if this is anywhere near as cool as the first one, I'll die.
