this album is great! i don't know why more people here aren't talking about it? very raw and different from the apples...robert's singing is also a little deeper than before. very intimate and personal lyrics...almost feel intrusive listening to them. i'm excited about that marbles album to come!

ever since I heard this, I've felt the same way - I can't believe more people aren't getting this

I almost got this the other day, but I passed it up because I haven't heard or seen any reviews on this album. It was even on sell at the local record store with a listening booth, but the listening booth wouldn't work.

So could someone write up a review of it? What does it sound like? Compare it to other bands or AiS songs. Anything would be nice because nothing's being said about this album anywhere.

And there's a review in the latest Magnet.

Also Rollingstone.com

But yeah, there wasn't a ton of press...

Thanks for the reviews. I did not know that Sidney and Robert had seperated. It all make sense now (side projects, hiatus, etc.). That shows how out of the loop I am.

Edit:
I picked up the record this past weekend and wow....what a great album. A lot more "indie" sounding than the Apples. I am really surprised by it.

They're also being named one of the top 20 albums of 2004 in Magnet!

it's an ok album, but just ok

At some points it seems like he's trying to sing New Your hip like Lou Reed which i don't think really works for him.

It just sounds like a band with no direction. The stripped-down one mic does nothing for the music or the experience. I can't understand why he needed to remove himself from the Apples to do this.

I hope Expo delivers.

I didn't have any expectations about it when I picked up a copy since Ulysses is a new poject, not The Apples or Marbles. I've listened to it for about three or four weeks now. I like it. I think it makes sense that Robert recorded these songs away from The Apples if you listen to the subject matter. I guess he could've done it as Marbles, but then he wouldn't have had the other guys playing on it. The songs are good enough to have been on an Apples' album. The production is done very well especially given the fact that it was all recorded around one mic, which of course means mono sound. Just that in itself is a good experiment, great to hear something recorded differently instead of the same thing all the time.

010 is quite possibly my favorite Robert Schnider album.

i've only listened to the album once since getting the album in december. it's good, but i didn't really think anything special of it. i should probably give it another chance.

i'm much more interested in the new album coming out by marbles.

its okay... the only complaint i have is that all the songs deal with the same subject and it gets kinda dull after a while. at least with the apples in stereo you get variety in the songs subject matter.

I bought it after listening to one song. I was DJing at the University of Kentucky's college station and someone called in to request "The Falcon." I hadn't heard it and didn't know that we had the album in stock, but was impressed by it. So much so that I bought it the next day. I don't regret it at all; it's a pretty darn good album.

It's a decent album. A little hard to enjoy since it's dark. Some good pop tunes on there though. Not Robert's best, but everything he touches is pretty much gold anyway. :)

inside of pissed off prostitutes, I try to get my mind off you

I sang that in the car the other day and my mum looked mortified. I laughed and said she was too right-wing conservative to have fun. and that she shouldn't cut her hair.

then she looked at me funny.

it certainly isn't the greatest e6 offshoot but, it is quite good occasionally.

"inside of pissed off prostitutes, I try to get my mind off you"
love that line.

That's an insult to yourself and Robert Schneider. You think 010 is better than Her Wallpaper Reverie or Tone Soul Evolution? You're blarmpin' mad.

I personally really like it. So it's not The Apples. Of course it isn't, why do you think he made it seperately from them? It's quite dark and lo-fi and very good. I really wouldn't try to compare it to The Apples at all. I feel sorry for bands that always get compared to bands that mebers played in before. A la Islands. Apples and ulysses are both very good, in entirely seperate ways.

alright, after spending a year with the album, i can safely say it's definitely one of my favorite schneider albums out. all of the songs are just really simple pop compositions that rock has heavily as possible. i like how it's sort of the anti-fun trick. how can you not love songs like "castles in spain" or "glacier"? the only song i can't really get into is the last one, "her silver veil".

but, man. such a good album. i'd love more.
