To all those on this board that have listened to the leak, I think we should post comments and reviews here to make sure people waiting don't get spoiled in the other thread.

At the risk of sounding crazy, I was like halflaughing halfcrying through the whole thing.

yep, same. and my apartment doesn't have internet, so i had to go to a square outside a coffee shop for wifi to download it and then turned it up and danced...some tourist eyebrows were raised

"This Morning" has my ringtone in it at 0:59, goddamn it. I just threw my headphones off to answer my phone to find that nobody was calling.

Rather, someone was calling but it was on vibrate. Interesting.

Is track 11 supposed to be Blasting Through as the tracklists have said or is it actually Signal Morning like the leak says (making the last track Signal Morning 2 instead of sans the 2)?

(And the album is great, of course)

Isn't it "New From The Heavenly Loom," according to that other tracklist? And what about "An Electronic Diversion"? There are discrepancies.

I'd go with the press release as the definitive track list. Who knows where whoever leaked it got it from.

i got it from team clermont. oh well.

Abel
05-20-2009, 07:03 AM
Yeah, according to searches I've done, it seems like a 50/50 split between "New" and "News." Neither title makes a whole lot of sense, but I prefer "New"; "New From the Heavenly Loom" could mean a song that was just produced on the heavenly loom, whereas "News From the Heavenly Loom" means that news would be the thing produced.

upon first real listen i love it but the production is weird and a little too muddy at some parts. some of the fuzz parts are cool but you cant hear anything else.

Dihnekis
05-20-2009, 10:17 AM
Of course, that could be a result of the rip. Could be the unmastered version, or the result of it being ripped on itunes.

unk0wn
05-20-2009, 10:21 AM
nah this is mastered. i think its a artistic decision. did you notice this as well?

Abel

I noticed the muddy sound at parts, of course, but I don't think it's awful. Makes certain songs or certain elements stick out more.

Abel

Very rough, typed as I listened, no revisions:

Woodpecker

On a tree in a misty gray
Mother nature spins
looking for a wild current

...
...!

Rocks

Under the rocks and stones
Under the county walls
under the san-mestoan(?) this world

Under the rocks and stones
under the houses strong
Under the san-mestoan this world

This Morning we remembered everything

and the sky came down and tapped us on the shoulder
It's about time 4x
Hear us
Very far away in there too
There's a world somewhere that's a little bit different
We've seen how you think it ends
And the sky came 4x

Tiny Concerts

There's no true sky
Wake you up some day
From the tiniest microbes to the largest star
Someday this will be a new ocean
To the smallest of microbes to the tiny concerts
To the tiny concerts

Overjoyed

Will you say you know the way
Well in your eyes we've seen one thing
Running as fast as you can, from what?
... picture painting words
And who's to say that they're not real
Soon you'll know that we've been here before
You will know we've found this world
cause everyone is overjoyed
and everything that you say is magic

The Breathing Universe

Why not try breathing along with the universe?

News from the Heavenly Loom

They jumped the place one film and you bring the heavenly loom
They jumped the place one film and you bring all the lights were low cause
We were laughing and singing when they burst right in
And then we started all over again

The Spinning Continuous

Have we come round, have we come round again? 2x
If you need a little song to help you move along to the next verse or two
Of course we'll come round, we'll always come round again
We will go around, we will come back round again
When you need a little song to help you move along into the next world or two or three
It's been a long long time
We will come

The falling molecules that make this world a quickly changing course
For you see everyone just comes around and comes right back again
Several types brain have been ignored, we've brought them back to see and hear
And here we go round our world in circles just like you knew that we would

Way out there somewhere not far away
Do you think we could lift the shadow
Do you think do you think do you think do you think at all?

Cause it's way out there somewhere not far away
Do you think we could lift the shadow
Do you think do you think do you think do you think at all?

Very far away, very far away, we've been there too
Very far away, very far away, we've been there too
We've been there too

Don't think of right side up or up and down
Cause it comes back around to the circle relived
If you think of right side up or up and down
Cause it comes back around to the circle relived

Very far away, very far away, we've been there too
Very far away, very far away, we've been there too

I You We

2, 3, 4
Why don't we arrange time for you to come and see
cause I can't wait but a little bit longer
I can't wait but a little bit longer
We can't wait but a little bit longer
Can't you see all the things around us changing
Of course you see them changing
We can't wait but a little bit longer
We can't wait but a little bit longer

Blasting Through

We're on the inside blasting through, and we're not home today
You're right if you think we're blasting through, cause you're not home

You're on the inside blasting through, and you're not home today
We're on the inside blasting through, we're not home today
You're right if you think we're blasting through cause you're not home today

You're on the outside blasting through, cause you're not home today
We're on the inside blasting through, we're not home today
You're right if you think we're blasting through, cause you're not home today

We're on the outside blasting through, and we're not home today
We're on the inside blasting through, and you're not home today
You're right if you think we're blasting through, cause you're not home today

You're on the outside blasting through, and you're not home today
We're on the inside blasting through, and we're not home today
You're right if you think we're blasting through, cause you're not sad today

We're on the inside blasting through, and we're not home today
You're right if you think we're blasting through, cause you're not home

Solid Forms Dissolving

Lately I would like to point it out
Sleep is ... miles away for us
And this world is just make believe
Surely no no no
And we cannot believe what we've seen or been told told told

Lately I would like to point it out
Seeing has never been in any other worlds away from us
And this world is still make believe
Should we know know know
that we cannot believe what we've seen or been told told told

Realize realize realize
We still make up this world as we go along
Realize

Some ... it's a dream that's real, and some ...
Some ... in a dream that's real, and some ...
Realize realize we still make up this world as we go along
Realize
... no strings attached, we believe
... no strings attached, we believe
Realize, realize, realize, realize

Gold Will Stay

We're on the outside blasting through
We're on the inside
How many more miles ... can you view
We're not alone

(reverse)
It's coming in waves
Turn this way
Gold will stay
Now I know
Why we're trying to communicate
Cause in this wave
Gold will stay

Gold will stay
It's coming in waves
Turn this way
Gold will stay
Now I know
Why we're trying to communicate
Cause in this wave
Gold will stay

Endless waves, endless waves, endless waves, and gold will stay
Could you erase every tape we've made
Could you scatter the things you've saved

The Frozen Lake / The Symmetry

I'm here to tell you that time has finally come
I should have told you to rake in yourself in the sun
Come on out, let's break the symmetry
... place and faces, facing places out ...
You'll reach out, worlds you'll lock away
The magic state of the hemispheres go round, and around, and round

I'm here to tell you that time has finally come
I should have told you to rake in yourself in the sun
Come on out, let's break the symmetry
... place and faces, facing places facing places facing places facing places (etc.)

Until Moon Medium Hears the Message

Sometimes you feel in a dream always
Sometimes it seems in a dream always
Spend our days on earth in the oxygen there, so clear now, so clear now
We can just stop looking forward to it, start looking around us, around here
Cause we're coming to the end
Did we just begin?
Cause we're coming to the end
Did we just begin, I trust we can
Of course we came around again, of course we've come around again, around again 2x
So many long ago, you'll be them, you are them, you've been them, one by one
Far in ... symphony is there
No fears, don't ever get the mysteries out there, inside you
We've spent our days on earth in the oxygen, so clear now, so clear now
So let's just stop

(Drifts)

Why can't we drift along, aimlessly along
Why won't you drift along? Say why can't we drift along?
If enough want to move on, this world will lift us up
Untagled from the trees, we've found just what we need to stay aware
You'll know real soon, they got the message, message
You'll know real soon, they got the message, today
Good and bad, you'll get the message, like I did
Good and bad, you're both together in this world
You'll know real soon, they got the message, the message

Signal Morning

Things have been said, they're all you can believe
They says we've gone, they're all you can believe
But I know, in time, things will be okay
I'm sure, that something's out there
There is no radiance today or tomorrow
There is no dark cloud in the sky
(cloudy day)

Things have been said, they're all you can believe
The way that we've been, we're all we can believe
But I know, in time, things will be okay
But I'm sure, something's out there
There is no radius today or tomorrow
There is no dark cloud in the sky

Clear day, here are mountains in your mirror
Speak of the rains ... towards the vast vast plains
To be the same, to know the way, to have some fun is all we want to do

05-21-2009, 07:02 AM
Those are not the lyrics.

Abel
05-21-2009, 07:05 AM
They're the lyrics as far as I can hear and think and type while listening. Really, thanks to the quality of the mixing, this is about as close as most people will get to understanding the lyrics without having the official text in front of them. W. C. Hart would have made them clearer if he wanted everyone to hear the same thing and get the same interpretation out of them.

Dihnekis
05-21-2009, 08:14 AM
Yeah there are obviously mistakes but it's a nice start...

Abel
05-21-2009, 08:29 AM
There are places where I just took a quick stab at them, and other places where I couldn't hear well enough to do even that ("..."). Maybe other people could take my start and change or add things based on their listening experience. If we keep doing that, our interpretations will form a more comprehensive look at the lyrics.

applesacks
05-21-2009, 09:15 AM
based on the live performances of woodpecker - it's something like "woodpecker looking for the worker ant, stumbles upon nostalgia......eyelids blink, the futures are now"
or something like that

im suprised they dropped off "come away/spinning continuous" off the album. or am i missing something?

nesey
05-21-2009, 09:20 AM
hello, i must say that we have no idea what kindof quality these leaks are, or what version of the album leaked... for one thing i know for certain that the absolute final version has not leaked because there were mix/equalisation changes made only a week ago and the only copy of that went to the record plant.
if you think that it sounds muddy and the vocals are low it sounds like these leaks must sound awful because its not the least bit muddy and the vocals are clear and comprehensible.
the point is, a lot of care was put into this album sounding as it does and a discerning ear however excited should really wait and hear it how it really sounds or, remember that what youre hearing now probably doesnt quite resemble the real sound. there will be a lyric sheet too. they jumped the place when the filaments were ringing heavenly loom.

nesey

oh its obviously the album, just not the last mix/last master. and probably doesnt sound half as good.

animalsanimals
05-21-2009, 11:19 AM
i dont know if i can handle it sounding any better than this...

i could see how you guys wouldnt want people new to the band to hear an inferior version to the final cut but all of us die hards or long time fans or whatever you want to call us, i think its safe to say we are all going to buy this thing the day it comes out. along with the vinyl release of the s/t album. (and the otc reissues)

being that vinyl sales have steadily been rising for the past 3 years (mainly due to the 'indie' crowd) i think you guys are going to get slammed with orders for this thing. seriously. and realistically the leak will just add to that. not to mention, i know people love to hate on pitchfork, but i cant see thing not being in say the top 5 albums of the year from them. im expecting a 9.0 or higher. people who are 18 years old now were 11 when the first album came out...there will be a new generation of e6 fans, and the youngsters are obsessed with having all things vinyl.

if a 2nd e6 type tour happens, i think its going to be massively hyped and the hottest ticket. the shows will be madness.

unk0wn
05-21-2009, 12:58 PM
good points Dihnekis. theres def. a certain buzz around the internet about this album. even on jam band Phish msg boards theres discussion. i hope when its released it will put lots of money in their pockets because they deserve it.

I think issuing the first album on vinyl at the same time is a great idea too... I know I and pretty much all of my friends with turntables are going to immediately snap both up. Signal Morning will hopefully bring a lot of attention back on the self titled and it's incredibleness.

unk0wn
05-21-2009, 01:05 PM
after listening over and over i think that it sounds like a trip. it has ups and downs and strange sounds that seems to come out of no where. periods of sadness and joy and wonder and astonishment. i love that sound on breathing universe almost quazi-electronic.

Abel
05-21-2009, 03:35 PM
I thought most of it sounded fine, and the "muddiest" parts are pretty close to the way some mixing has been done on OTC/CS stuff before. Some songs have a really crisp sound, others are a little muddier. I really wouldn't have been surprised if the final version sounded just like this.

plex
05-21-2009, 04:02 PM
I didn't notice any 'muddyness'. I think it sound amazing!

Abel
05-21-2009, 04:26 PM
What I'm referring to is how the vocal tracks and sometimes the drums have a sort of thick muted sound to them, as though you were listening to them through a door. That and the fact that some tracks are kind of buried below the others to the point where you can't distinguish the lyrics, like in Woodpecker.

the part on "this morning (we remembered everything)" when it drifts off into formlessness and then zaps back into an all new song structure reminds me of why i love music so much! the first time i heard it (on headphones) i laughed out loud lying on my couch from shear joy.

ok guys, let me tell you, this album is insane, the production is out of this world. i cant wait to have this on cd and vinyl. maybe one day it will be released on high quality DVD audio! who knows... this album is way better than their first from a technical recording standpoint, and how insanely experimental and atmospheric it sounds. now that i have amazing headphones i can really here where each sound is coming from, and the spaces between the instruments and noises. this is probably the best album i have ever listened to. ketamine, weed and some nitrous oxide take you deeper into the album than a sober listen can. i hope they release some sort of visual accompaniment with this i mean i enjoy seeing the things that pop in my head when i listen to this. but the story would be so much better if will animated the album.

so all i can say is i cant wait till i can hear this in higher fidelity!

If we are gonna talk about our drug experiences with this thing, I'll share. A while back on an acid trip I was listening to Dusk At Cubist Castle in the dark on vinyl with through my headphone setup (SL1200>DL-103>Azur640p>LD MKIII+>AKG K701s) and by the time it got to Gravity Car I was pretty much completely dissolved, experiencing this absolutely incredible carnival in my head... a giant wheel, kind of cocked to the side (not seeing any of this mind you, just kind of feeling it?) almost like a bunch of colorful flexible gears entertwining and moving within each other in a perfect, choreographed pattern to the music.

Well I forget which song it was, but not too long ago I smoked for the first time in about 3 weeks, a lot, and it sent me right back into that experience but this time it was to one of the songs of the new album. It was amazing, the two songs just felt linked and I could feel the progression from Dusk to this... it kind of shook me up, in a great way.

I haven't listened to the back catalogue in a long time. Maybe I'll throw those records on at the Signal Morning listening party I'm having.

i feel we need to preemptively strike the music review sites/blogs and tell them not to low ball this album. this is definitely one of my favies of the decade, forget about just the year.

as much as i hate to compare music to other bands, this album for me brings to mind kida, the glow pt2, constellation records, dj shadow. it feels like it is a culmination of a lot of music from this decade and the late 90's, yet its far more psychedelic... and well, its more enjoyable than anything i named above. i drove from pa to nj and then from nj to pa with this thing blasting on a loop. ive listened to it on the AKGs every night before i sleep. i have listened from start to finish no less than 75 times already. i love every moment. every note. not a second is wasted. ihavent obsessed over an album like this is awhile. in years even...

if pfork gave MPP a 9.6, Bitte Orca a 9.2, and Veckatimest a 9.0, then this deserves a 10.0

album of the year, top 5 of the decade. heck, time will tell but this may be my favorite album of the decade. i dont see myself getting tired on this, it will forever remain in the rotation.

I noticed a few days ago while listening to this on my iPod and looking at the clouds in the sky that the album cover is the EXACT same colors. Seriously, look at the cover for Signal Morning and then look at the sky. EXACT same colors. The bottom looks just like clouds and the blue is the same color as the sky.

This makes sense to me cause almost the entire time I listen to the album I feel like I'm flying. It's like breathing nice clean oxygen or swimming in really cold water. It's really nice and cool and refreshing. It makes you completely awake and makes you feel like you're in a dream at the same time. It's simultaneously happy and sad. "Woodpecker Greeting Worker Ant" feels like a GIANT tree, so tall that it's in the clouds and all the organisms living in it. THIS ALBUM COULD SAVE THE WORLD. Just kidding, but it's really really good.

Great review! Really gave me some good history that I didn't know about.

I just want to add that I'm new here, and if anyone who worked on this album reads this, Signal Morning is an absolute masterpiece! Hands down the album of the year, probably the best thing I've heard in many years. Hearing it led me to go back and find the first album, and OTC, and it's all incredible, but I keep coming back to Signal Morning. I've been trying to tell everyone I know about this amazing stuff.

I really love this album. Although the distinctly mellow "Circulatory System" style remains, it seems to harken back to the OTC day in a way that is different than their S\T release. The vocals on "This Morning" remind me of "Fireplace" and "Gypsum Oil Field Fire". The closing track is one of the most amazing things I've heard ever. It's interesting to think that this is the closing track though. "Forever" was magical, and it conveyed an amazing explosion of feeling at the end of an equally explosive album. However great the closing track is, it still seems somewhat anti-climactic. I still love the album, but just hope reviewers listen to it enough to see it for the masterpiece it is, because it really does take a couple listens.

Also, do any of you feel strange when downloading leaks and rarities of the E6. I know that I of course will buy the record when it is released, but I always feel guilty. I draw the line at when I am taking something that the artist could still make money off of. If it's live, self-released, or rare as heck (released in Japan) then I may give in. What do you think?

I'm horrible at waiting, so I always download leaks with the knowledge that I'll be buying the vinyl when it's released. Or at least downloading when I'm totally broke and buying it as soon as I get some money that's not going towards bills & groceries.

I gave in and listened to the leak. I didn't like it nearly as much as Self titled, but maybe I just need to let it sink in.
